Since we’ve been talking a lot about colors and doing science experiments involving colors, I decided to create a color theory setup for my boys. They really enjoyed this activity!
I set up the paint in sections so they could easily see what colors they were mixing and we could chat about the colors they produced. Then, they were free to create their own colors/creations.
Supplies

Free Printable Chart and Diagrams
Directions
- Print out the printable chart and diagrams.
- Use the color mixing chart as a reference and post it on your wall!
- Gather all of your supplies.
- Pick which page you would like your child to paint on. The second page is where the child is to mix the primary colors with the addition of black and white paint. The third page is the same as the first but written out with words. The 4th page is a very simple page to mix primary colors and then mixing secondary colors to make tertiary colors. The fifth page is to create your own color mixing palettes. The 6th page is to mix only the primary colors (this is great to use in a ziploc bag for a mess-free introduction of colors to babies and toddlers).
- Have fun!
