How To Make Fizzy Eggs With Baking Soda and Vinegar STEM Experiment For Kids

Are you up for some baking soda and vinegar science fun?  We love baking soda and vinegar experiments as it’s so pretty and so cool to hear the fizzing that happens! 

When baking soda and vinegar combine, they react together and create carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide, or CO2 are those bubbles that form.  Pretty cool, right?!  So to make this even cooler, we added food coloring!  Check out the materials and instructions below to recreate this fun and fizzy STEM activity.

Fizzy Easter eggs

Materials

  • Measuring spoon
  • Measuring Cup
  • Food Coloring (different colors)
  • Vinegar
  • Baking Soda
  • Plastic Easter Egg Halves or Mini bowls
  • Pipettes (optional)

Instructions

  • Measure ~1 tablespoon of baking soda into each of the plastic egg halves.
  • Add 1-3 drops of food coloring into the plastic eggs on top of the baking soda.
  • Pour ~1/4 cup of vinegar carefully into each egg to see it fizz up and explode. Optionally, you can use a pipette to squirt little amounts.
  • Observe the fizzing.
