I set out a tray with a different amount of dollars and coins in each compartment. Each compartment is labeled with a sticker that has either A, B, C or D in it. On a magic erase board or paper, I wrote down the letters and my 5 year old had to count and write down the amount of money in each section.

When we first started learning about money, we used real dollar bills and coins but once he grasped the concept of counting money, I was able to use these as replacements from Play Money Kit from Melissa and Doug.

For my 7 year old, he asked for word problems to continue to practice counting money. So for him, I set out a magic erase board with a scenario that he has to solve first and then show me the correct amount of money using the play money kit as well.
