How To Create Your Own Art Curriculum: Expressionist Painting

This week for art, we learned about expressionism. Basically it was a time period where artists based their artwork on feelings, emotions and ideas. I think this is one of my favorite artistic time periods!

So for our artwork, we used our book Get Into Art: Animals. We painted colorful sheep in the meadows. We talked about colors and how each color made us feel/which colors represented an emotion. We also brainstormed a list of emotions.

These books are really great to introduce the different mediums and projects for elementary students (as well as for us non art teachers).
