We are going to learn about oceans this week! One of my favorite things to do is set up a simple tray of sensory items for play. We are using play dough, play sand, seashells, and ocean themed figurines.

To make it more education, I found a few of our ocean themed books to read aloud from our Dr. Seuss Library Collection and Usbourne Collection. It’s just one of the best ways to learn and reinforce educational topics.

Materials:

Play Sand

Tray (ours we bought at the dollar store)

Tray (multi compartment) (ours we bought at the dollar store)

Seashells

Ocean animals

Play Dough

Directions:

  1. You can use a multi compartment tray to put the sand, play dough, seashells, and sea life toys separately and the child can create their own ocean scene
  2. Or you can lay them in a tray with the blue play dough representing the ocean and the sand representing the sand. And the child can explore play and learning through this setup.

Very simple setup!

In these creations, you can see my oldest son’s creation first, then my youngest, and then mine (my 5 yo said he wanted to see me create a scene and then gave me the approval 👍when I finished 😅 (ever been graded by a five year old before??? 😂). I do have to say it was fun and relaxing!
