This week we made a trip to the dollar store and found these packs of geodes/ build your own crystal kits.
What I like about this geode experiment is that it is pretty much a low prep activity. I could have easily paired it with an educational video and a library book, and call it a mini lesson. So if you are low on time, this is a pretty cool experiment.
Disclaimer: Some toys and gadgets don’t always work out at the dollar store, but when it does, it’s pretty exciting!
So with this little kit, we took everything out and displayed it. Due to our past experiences, I have learned myself and I continue to teach my kids, that it’s so vital to read the instructions completely, and reread them again.
So we read the directions x2, and we talked about possible hazards, especially since powder is involved. Then, we poured the colored powder on each rock, and let it sit for two days. This was the hardest part of the experiment as you never really know what to expect. But, to be honest, they came out pretty cool for a dollar store product! What do you think?
If you don’t have a dollar store near you or cannot find these, try out this crystal growing kit here.
