My oldest son loves chemistry. I started to introduce it into our homeschooling curriculum last year since he wanted to learn more. That’s one of the greatest things about homeschooling- we get to choose what we want to learn about based on interests, and then delve into that topic as much or as less as we want.
We currently use Mr.McQuerry’s Elementary Chemistry curriculum which is a great introduction into chemistry. To supplement our chemistry curriculum with more experiments that aren’t your typical household items, we purchased a subscription to Mel Science. It is really cool and easy to do because you’re following instructions on the iPad that’s step by step. Check out our video below to see how we made iron light up with fire! If you want to learn more about Mel Science Chemistry, you can visit through my affiliate link here: Mel Science.
You can see in the video below that I am helping one of my son’s with the experiment, while my other son navigates the iPad. Usually these kits have enough materials to do twice, so my kids take turns running the experiment. It’s a lot of fun and it’s a great educational experience for all of us. Have you tried Mel Science kits yet? What’s your favorite experiment?
