If you have never made the solar system using crayons and a blow-dryer, you are in for a beautiful surprise!

I have to say, my boys and I really loved how this turned out! I was inspired by @sensoryplaymatters for this “cool hair” technique using crayons, a hot glue gun, and a blow dryer, that I wanted to create something similar for the solar system.

I had something else envisioned in my mind for how this would turn out, but unexpectedly it came out even better! The kids and I are going to frame this as it’s just so beautiful!

Supplies:

Glue gun with glue sticks
Blow dryer
Paper
Tape
Tray
Broken crayons

Directions:

1️⃣Line up the colors you want for the solar system. I used our Solar System set from Safari Ltd. to inspire the color scheme as well as our Usborne Books and More book on the Solar System.
2️⃣Tape your paper into a tray because the crayons splatter when heated and to prevent your paper from flying away.
3️⃣Plug in your glue gun. Glue each crayon on the paper so it doesn’t fly away during the blow drying process.
4️⃣Put your blow dryer on hot air and on low setting. Start blow drying each crayon until you see it start to melt and splatter.
5️⃣You can wait ‘til the crayons have fully melted and let it cool before touching. I ended up taking off some of the crayons before that point and it was still fine 😊 Check out our video below!

‼️Please Be Very Careful. Hot Hot Hot stuff is everywhere- blow dryer, glue guns, melted crayon wax‼️
