I love holidays as this is where I get lots of inspiration to do themed activities with my boys. I especially love STEAM/STEM Challenges as this helps to foster creativity and individuality.

If you haven’t already, check out our Easter Egg Tape Resist Art and FREE Egg Template download here.

On for today’s challenge, I gathered a few engineering supplies for the kids to build their own Easter/Spring basket. They would have loved to use tape and popsicle sticks in addition to these materials, but I suggested to them to keep it to these supplies only. This will help to stretch their brain and help them think out of the box.

Materials:

  • Scissors
  • Twine
  • Chenille Stems (pipe cleaners)
  • Straws
  • Mini Easter Eggs

Directions:

  1. Show inspirational pictures of other creations if necessary
  2. Gather supplies in a tray
  3. Assist kids as needed with cutting, tying knots, supporting materials, etc.
  4. Try to fit as many eggs in a basket as possible
  5. Discuss what materials they would add or take away and allow extra time to do so after this initial challenge is completed.
