Today we are making a boat made out of foil to help our little yellow Peep travel! Have you made a boat made out of foil yet? It’s an awesome STEM activity as there are so many ways to construct a boat and see how well it floats.
A few other materials to build a boat to help the little yellow Peep float, would be dowel rods, popsicle sticks, and straws. You can ask questions like which material would be longer lasting before sinking in the water, or how many peeps can your boat hold before it sinks, and questions like that. If you have any other suggestions for materials, do share below, I would love to know what you used!
Materials
- Tape or Tape Dots
- 3 Straws
- Foil
- Peeps
- Sail (paper triangles)
- Scissors
- Large container of water
Instructions
- Using 2 bendy straws, cut about 1 inch off each end and put the ends inside of each other and secure with tape. It should look like a diamond.
- Take the third straw and open the bendy part. Tape one end to the center top of the diamond and tape the other end to the center of the diamond's bottom. This is your boat structure.
- Use the foil to wrap around the boat structure carefully.
- Now you can put your boat to float in a container of water.
- How many peeps can your boat hold?
