Gameschooling: How To Play and Learn with Scrabble

For our English lesson today we played Scrabble. I quizzed my kids on the parts of speech on the word that was played and whoever got it right, the other person had to tell me why. For example, I played the word “three”. My oldest said it was an adjective and my youngest said it was because it describes ‘how many’. We didn’t do it for every word because then it wouldn’t be fun, but throughout the game we did this 😎.

Note: I do help my kids with forming some of the words that aren’t obvious but it’s another great way to learn how to make words based on digraphs and so on. For example, if they had the letters a, i, n, I would say, you have these letters, what words do you know have this spelling “ain” and they would said “train, rain, gain” and then they would look to see if they have the consonants and then where to play it on the board.

Did you know there is also a Scrabble, Jr., version? I used this level when my son was learning to spell words and we really enjoyed it! It has two sides as well- one that has words on already and one that is blank to play the original scrabble. I will link both of these Scrabbles in my bio for you to check out!

I also want to mention that Scrabble is also great for Math! We had to add and multiply the points and my kids would keep adding their score throughout the game so they can know who was in the lead 😂.
