For my 5.5 yo, I poured different amounts of colored water into a flask, a beaker and a graduated cylinder. I asked him which container did he think held the most water. Then, he had to determine if he was correct by using a measuring cup to measure each liquid. Afterwards, we talked about capacity and also how water takes the shape of its container (Gotta include states of matter in here somehow, right?!)

This is a simple hands-on activity that works on quite a few skills: scientific inquiry; math by measuring liquids in ounces and cups; hand-eye coordination for pouring; and color mixing to produce secondary and tertiary colors.

So many skills learned in just this simple pouring activity! Give it a try and let me know how it goes by tagging me @playqinuiremakelearn on Facebook and Instagram!
